Founded with a deep personal connection by Kelly Landon, The Union Connection DBA Back the Blue - Snohomish County is a dynamic, empowering, and supportive organization. Our mission is to bring out the best in all law enforcement, first responders, and trade workers, driven by a passion that was born from a transformative personal experience.
Our mission is to transform personal experiences into valuable support, enabling law enforcement, first responders, and trade workers to realize their full potential. We strive to provide diverse support and resources, allowing them to make a difference in their communities, both on and off duty.
We are dedicated to providing assistance in various small ways and bridging any gaps that may exist. This is just the beginning, and there is so much more we aim to do.
Supporting Those Who Serve
Our Vision is to fuel our passion for opening doors of support towards law enforcement ensuring they know their worth and leading them to a happy, fulfilling life.
Our journey began with a simple act of appreciation-distributing 7500 snack bags, enough to circle the county three times. This was our way of showing every officer that they are not just wanted, but deeply appreciated for their service. We then moved to snack drops, and we found out each officer had their own craving for snacks, so they could pick what they enjoyed.
Over time, we were called to help in more ways. For example, with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office, we were called with a request for car seats. They had come into a situation where there was a car accident where they had a young child they needed to transport, and the next of kin was four hours away. They waited with the young child on the side of the road till they could get there. We raised enough to obtain and donate three new car seats for each precinct.
In March of 2022, tragedy struck when Officer Dan Rocha was shot while fulfilling his duty. Upon receiving a call for assistance, we stepped in to offer our support to the Everett Police Department at the scene. To honor Officer Rocha and support his family, we crafted a special memorial coin. This coin was not only a fundraiser for Officer Rocha's family but also served as a heartfelt token for every member of the Everett Police Department. Memorial wristbands were made for all law enforcement in Snohomish County. During the trial of Officer Rocha we were contacted for meal assistance for the officers testifying.
In March of 2023, Officer House was shot while on duty. Following the incident, our organization was contacted to provide assistance by bringing meals to the hospital for the officers who were waiting for updates on Officer House's condition. After a period of recovery, Officer House successfully recuperated from his injuries and has returned to active duty.
The Lake Stevens Police Department has recently initiated a wellness initiative dedicated to supporting the mental and emotional well-being of its officers. As part of this effort, we were approached to assist with furnishing a dedicated wellness room with uplifting reading materials, healthy snacks, and a subscription to the Calm app to promote relaxation and stress relief.
On September 7th 2023, Dan Spaeth was shot outside his home while attempting to slow a vehicle that was driving through as a deer crossed the road. Our organization was contacted to help raise funds for the family. Thanks to the generous support from the community, we were able to raise enough funds to cover the funeral costs and even had money left over. Additionally, we made memorial bracelets for the Monroe Corrections Complex and other corrections facilities in the county.
On the 17th of May 2023, the Everett fire department received an urgent call to rush to Snohomish County Jail. The reason behind the call was concerning reports of multiple inmates overdosing. Thanks to the swift action of the corrections officers on duty, a total of seven inmates were successfully rescued. In recognition of their exemplary service, a surprise pizza dinner was arranged to show appreciation for their dedication and quick response.
In September 2023, a deputy experienced displacement as a result of a house fire. Our assistance was requested to help gather donations for the affected family. We were successful in replenishing their pantry with food, replacing essential household items, and providing support for their rental home where their insurance fell short.
